Ms. Ferrara is passionate about criminal defense, which is the exclusive focus of her law firm. ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

Ms. Ferrara graduated from the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia, in 1991. She later attended George Mason University School of Law and graduated in 1996. She worked at Federal Defenders of San Diego, Inc. as a law clerk in 1995 and then as a Trial Attorney from 1996 to 2000. In 2001, she opened the Law Office of Jami L. Ferrara and has specialized in federal and California criminal defense ever since.

Ms. Ferrara is a member of the California State Bar. She is admitted to practice in the Southern and Central Districts of California, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Ms. Ferrara is very active in the local criminal defense bar. She is the Criminal Justice Act Panel Representative in the Southern District of California. She is on the San Diego Chapter of the Federal Bar Association Advisory Board and the Federal Bar Association Foundation's Board of Directors, has served on the Board of Directors of Federal Defenders of San Diego, Inc., the Institute of Criminal Defense Advocacy (ICDA), and the California Innocence Project. She has served on several Magistrate Selection Committees for the Southern District of California. She has previously been a member of the Criminal Defense Bar Association (CDBA) and the Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Club (CDLC). In 2017, she was named Appellate Attorney of the Year by the Criminal Defense Bar Association of San Diego. In 2019, she received the Conant-Cleary Award from the Defenders Programs of San Diego Boards of Directors for "unselfish devotion to protecting the rights of the indigent accused." In 2021, she received the Board of Directors Award from the Criminal Defense Bar Association for "outstanding work as the Criminal Justice Act Panel Representative."
